[Week 5] Models Making

What I've done this week 

This week, I've created models of the space I am working at. I've used the materials from my tool kits such as steel ruler, cutting mat, and blade for cutting straight lines and a cereal box to create these models. I first measured the space's heights and widths with my steel ruler. I  then identified the floor ceilings, walls, doors, and windows. I eventually made these models by folding them together. This time, the models I've made are in 1 to 20. After making the model in cardboard, I've made another one with papers. After making these models, I've made a comparison between these two different materials. Both cardboard and papers are good materials for making models. However, I personally prefer using cardboard because it is thicker in width and heavier in weight. It stands better than papers. However, it really depends on what we are going to make. When it comes to topography, papers will be a better choice to use because it is thinner and lighter so that we can control the shape and size easily. That's what I've found and learned this week.

[Week 5] Folding Techniques

What I've done this week

This week, I've learned several folding techniques such as pleated surfaces, curved folding, and crumpling from videos provided by FoldingTechinques.com. I've found them useful because they help designers to make three-dimensional from two-dimensional sheets of fabric, cardboard, plastic, metal, and many other materials. Among all of the folding techniques, I love X-Form Span the most because it is so beautiful and easy to make!

Site Map Sketching

This week, my group mates and I had gone back to the site and mapped out the site for the floor plan which we are required to use Illustrator. We have no difficulty in mapping out the site since our site isn't too big. Moreover, it was a fun practice. We measured the length of our site with our own feet! However, we had problems in choosing the correct scale. We have redone our site map several times with different scales and eventually came up with a most reasonable scale one unit equals to one meter.

[Week 2] Photoshop

What I've done this week

This week, I’ve learnt how to use Photoshop including basic skills such as adjusting perspective, luminosity and saturation. We are required in our group to take one background photograph each from our site and choose one image each from the set provided. I am responsible for the Arc De Triomphe. I first found it difficult because the the original image doesn’t fit my background photography. But then, I tried to adjust the perspective so that it looks really there. I also intentionally matched the colour because my background photograph is so bright while it is so dark in the original image of Arc de Triomphe. I eventually finished editing it with content-aware fill to erase some people and rubbish bins in my background photograph.

[Week 2] Adobe Capture

What I’ve done this week

This week, I’ve downloaded a app called Adobe Capture and then I used it to create swatches from photos I taken in Campus and Coogee Beach. I changed and refined my selections by dragging the circular swatches around the screen. This app is awesome!
